The Revolving Door

by Marcella Mosher I walk through a revolving door every day to enter the
building I work in. I spin through the door at least twice a day and at
least twice a day it ki tests me. Its ki test is always consistent and
impartial. It is an equal opportunity ki tester. Sometimes the door catches on the back of my heels. I'm
leaning to far over my one-point. I'm off balance leading with my head
rather than my one-point. Sometimes my forehead or face almost touch the
door as I push through. I've let my unbendable arm collapse. Sometimes the door gives me a little sankyo just as it is about to spit me out. I'm using too much muscle to grasp the handle. And sometimes I go right through the door as if its not
even there. That's when I pause and wonder how did that happen? It usually
happens for one of two reasons. I've blended just right with "uke",
the other person going through the door at the same time I am. Or I'm
thinking about something good like Gregory's making pizza for dinner,
tonight's an Aikido night, or TGIF, the weekend is here! This simple revolving door has become my daily reminder that it's in the little everyday things that we can practice aikido.
Cecelia
Ricciotti Seminar Sensei Cecelia Ricciotti will be teaching a special seminar at the Rochester dojo June 12 & 13. Cecelia Sensei is one of Maruyama Sensei's most senior students. There will be classes all day Saturdaybeginning at 10 AMwith lunch in the dojo and a picnic Saturday night. There will also be a class Sunday morning, from 10-12. Don't miss this special opportunity to train with one of Kokikai's best!
More from Cecelia Cecelia Sensei sends this news from her dojo: "Philadelphia Aikido is proud to announce two openings for an Aikido residency at our dojo this summer. This is an excellent opportunity for younger students to deeply immerse themselves into Aikido, to learn more about Aikido as well as how a dojo operates, to take advantage of assistant teaching opportunities in both adult and childrens classes, and to enjoy all the amenities that our dojo and the hip City of Philadelphia have to offer." For more information on this unique opportunity, see the flyer posted in the dojo, or speak with Judy or Jim.
The following people tested in April: For 6th Kyu, David Pugsley, for 4th Kyu, Kevin Daniels, and for 3rd Kyu, Rosemary Pleninger. Everyone did a great job. Congratulations to all on attaining your next rank.
